A staple of traditional Ayurvedic medicine, ashwagandha root is considered a powerful adaptogen – an herbal supplement that can help increase general stamina and adaptation to changing conditions and stresses.

Product Notes:

Strong in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, Ashwagandha can contribute to immune health, and may be helpful in stopping the growth and reproduction of cancer cells; its beneficial effects on the nervous system include reducing stress and anxiety. As an added benefit, this "Indian ginseng" is also used as an aphrodisiac and for the promotion of male sexual health.

Ashwagandha or Withania somnifera is also commonly known as Winter Cherry, or as Indian Ginseng – because its actions and uses are in many ways similar to those of Chinese Ginseng, without the price associated with it.

The root is considered to be a very important "Rasayana" or rejuvenating tonic in Ayurvedic herbology and as such has the ability to revitalize and rebuild the body. In Ayurvedic Medicine it has been used to treat hypertension and help the body adapt to stress by rebuilding the nervous system without stimulating it.

While it has been used in Ayurveda to increase stamina and performance, ashwagandha has also been used to promote a calm mind, to increase cognition and memory and even encourage deep sleep. Its Sanskrit name means "that which imparts the strength of a horse," and as such has also been traditionally used as an aphrodisiac.

The root is slightly bitter and astringent in taste and warming in action and so is considered to be a key tonic particularly for a Vata constitution.

In powdered form, Ashwagandha can be easily taken as a supplement mixed into drinks and smoothies.

Ingredients:

Certified Organic Ashwagandha Root Powder (Withania somnifera)

Suggested Usage:

Take Organic Traditions Ashwagandha Powder as a tonic at 500mg or 1 Teaspoon twice daily. Add one to two teaspoons to smoothies, teas, yogurt or any other recipe. Combine Organic Traditions Ashwagandha Powder with Organic Traditions Triphala Powder in a 1:1 ratio in a tea or in smoothies.

The powder has a slightly astringent, earthy taste, so you can add Organic Traditions Goji Berries or Dried Apricots to smoothies for a naturally sweet taste. Add up to 1 teaspoon per serving to any beverage or recipe.
