The Ascent X5 is Vitamix's new top-of-the-line countertop blender, which includes a full ten year warranty for home use. (Which you're unlikely to need, since their machines last at least ten years longer with regular use, than most.) As such, it includes virtually all the 'bells and whistles' of previous domestic models, plus some new ones unique to this particular unit (although many of these are shared by the X4, but it has 5 fewer program cycles than this one).
Product Notes:
S&H included in Canada. Introduced in Fall 2024, the new Ascent X line is the successor to the original Ascents which launched in 2016, but are being discontinued in the USA and are no longer being commercially imported to Canada due to counter-tariffs (as of this writing in July, 2025).
Apart from the X5's unique features to be detailed below, the X line's main differences from the original Ascents are they all have at least 3 programs (or 4, including the cleaning cycle which now has its own dedicated touchscreen button on the control panel); their motor base and controls have been redesigned to be a bit sleeker; they include a tamper holder which can be mounted to either side of the machine; and they ship with the 48 rather than the 64 ounce container, because it's more versatile and easier to produce smaller batches for just 1 to 4 people than the larger container.
The Ascent X5 includes all the new features of its junior stablemate the X2, of course, such as touch-screen controls, digital timers, and 'smart' technology which automatically detects which type of container is being used; plus several more:
- They all have a similar front face and feet, but the motor case/housing on the X5 have a metal finish, not plastic.
- There are 10 rather than just 3 pre-programmed food preparation options (i.e., automated speed, time, and stop cycles suitable for that type of recipe and the container you are using), which will all work with the included container.* They are for making: Smoothies, Frozen Desserts, Hot Soups, Frozen Cocktails, Dips & Spreads, Smoothie Bowls, Frappés, Nut Butters, Non-Dairy Milks, and Spice Grinding.
- To reduce clutter, those touch-activated program options appear dynamically in the display screen using a combination of the menu and variable speed controls, rather having too many dedicated buttons of their own.
- The X5 has display icons for 'Tamper Required,' which will light up for those programs that need one, and for 'Use Tamper Now,' to tell you when there's an air pocket so it's time to use it, which will be especially appreciated by relative newcomers to blending.
- The X5 also has an "Add Time" button which enables you to extend the current phase of an operating program by 15 seconds if you're seeing it needs it, without having to abandon the program altogether.
- It also has an "Approaching Overheat" (a flashing thermometer) icon, to warn you when the motor has been overworked, so you can shut it down (or in some cases, speed it up) yourself, or be reminded to refrain from using the tamper for more than 30 seconds at a time, before it reaches the threshold when it will display the full, "Overheated" thermometer icon and shut off automatically - at which point you would need to wait 20 to 45 minutes for it to cool down.
* Be advised, the final five programs, which are unique to this model (the X4 only has the first 5) may not work with older Self-Detect Ascent containers you might have on hand, since they were developed after those containers' computer chips were made. Similarly, the personal cups for the original Ascents (which had some growing pains) will not work with the X-Series.
There will likely be more to follow, but the six existing containers this model IS compatible with are the:
- 12-Cup Food Processor Attachment with Self-Detect (VM0215)
- 48-ounce Aer™ Disc Container (VM0190)
- 48-ounce Container with Self-Detect (VM0190) [included]
- 48-ounce Dry Grains Container with Self-Detect (VM0190)
- 48-ounce Stainless Steel Container (VM0216)
- 64-ounce Low Profile Container with Self-Detect (VM0184).
Collectively, the Blender containers can be used to prepare: Baby Food, Batters, Cocktails, Dips and Spreads, Doughs, Dressings and Cold Sauces, Frozen Treats, Ground Flours, Nuts, or Spices, Hot Soups and Drinks, Nut Butters, and Smoothies and Juices.
Ascent Model X5 Features
* Box Includes: Motor Base; a Low-Profile 1.4L/48oz Tritan Container, a Low-Profile Tamper / pushing rod; a Tamper holder (which can be mounted on either side); and a recipe book with over 30 recipes developed by Vitamix's culinary team specifically for the Ascent X Series.
* Variable Speed Control: enables you to fine-tune the texture you want, for everything from smooth purées to chunky salsas.
* Pulse feature: for heartier recipes, this enables you to layer a coarser chop into an existing smooth purée, such as for a thick vegetable soup or a chunky pasta sauce.
* Built-in digital timer: lets you know how long you've been blending something, to help you achieve the perfect texture and replicate your preferred results from the past, exactly, for your manual blends; or to provide the remaining time for the pre-programmed options.
* Self-cleaning program for the blender container: just fill the container half full with warm water, and two drops of dish soap, put on the lids, and run the program. The display will tell you how long it takes (it varies by container). The container, lid, blade base, and seal are also all dishwasher safe or can be hand-washed and sanitized, if desired.
* Full 10-year warranty: covering all parts, performance, labor, and two-way shipping at no cost to you.
