Info: 14" Long Inline Filter

If you're seeing a lot of scale build up in your kettles, coffee makers, water jugs, shower walls or curtains, or plumbing fixtures, you likely have 'hard' water, with a lot of minerals (usually especially magnesium and calcium) in it. Although it's safe to drink, it can dry out or irritate your skin, make your hair more brittle and unmanageable, impede your soap or detergent's foaming or lathering up ability, and take a toll on your appliances. Unlike water softening approaches which end up adding a lot more sodium to the water (which is the last thing most of us need), these Water Softening Filters use several types of specialized ceramic balls.

Product Notes:

These fourteen-inch long inline filters can be used either on their own (as a single inline pass-through filter) or be easily integrated with other types of filtration systems you may already have (e.g., they could go on top of a three-chamber drinking water system like our AlkaPlus). They are compatible with 1/4" John Guest brand Straight Union Connectors to enable quick connections to tubing to connect to either directly to a water input line or to another filtration system on one end and, on to the drinking faucet (or to another stage of a more complex purifier) on the other.

These SW (short for: Softening Water) filters combine several types of ceramic balls (which range between 0.5 mm and 5 mm in size) and materials to not only soften the water, but also to improve some its other aspects:

* Synthetic zeolite balls, which have an excellent calcium ion exchange capacity and rate, and can also absorb nitrogen and neutralize odors.

* Ion exchange resin: a polymer material that can absorb and release ions in water, cations, in this case, to help remove cations in the water such as calcium and magnesium.

* Activated carbon powder balls, to help purify the water by adsorbing harmful heavy metals and removing odors.

* Zinc ceramic balls, whose zinc content not only has anti-bacterial properties, but is also used to help keep calcium carbonate in its water-soluble form, to curtail the formation of hard deposit-forming calcite crystals.

The effective purification capacity of these filters is between 5,000 and 7,000 liters, and they should be replaced about every 6 to 8 months. They should be flushed for about 30 minutes before their initial use.

These filters are manufactures by Kum Yang Materials CO. Ltd, a Korean company that has been making NSF-certified bio- ceramic filter balls and water purification system for over 35 years.
