For airborne allergy and/or asthma sufferers, our main nemesis comes in the form of tiny particles such as pollen or mold spores. To capture them, the I-700+ is outfitted with a True HEPA-13 filter: achieving 99.7% efficiency at 0.3 microns, without relying on an electrostatic charge to do so, as some brands do, so its filtration performance won't drop as the filter loads up. At about 23" high, over 10" in diameter, with three-inch deep pleats or blades, this is a very large filter, providing plenty of surface area: over 100 sq.ft., more than twice as much as Airpura's regular HEPA filter and many times most' brands' surface areas, enabling it to trap an awful lot of mold spores, dander and smoke particulates and last a very long time -- typically three to five years. (You'll know it's time to replace it when the flow rate has slowed noticeably at the same speed even when the prefilter and/or optional carbon weave have been replaced). And to ensure that long life, and to provide both a better seal within the filtering chamber and assurance that the filter itself doesn't cause you any grief for its first few days of operation, that true HEPA filter has been attached without the use of adhesives and enclosed in galvanized steel metal end caps rather than plastic ones, to prevent the off-gassing that some people with multiple chemical sensitivities might notice from standard HEPA filters for their first few days of operation.
As a proud member of the Airpura 700 series, the I700+ plus uses their redesigned motor, replaces the 600 series' Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) motor with a highly efficient electronically controlled (EC) motor, which is twice as quiet at the lowest speed (just 29 db, from 6 feet away - a whisper - ranging up to moderately loud 63 db on the highest of its variable speeds, which you wouldn't ordinarily use while present), and increases its output 13.4% from a maximum free-flow rate of 560 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) to a massive 635 CFM. That translates to it being able to cover 1,191 sq. ft. at strict medical-grade speeds (at 4 full exchanges per hour), which outperforms even Blueair's largest consumer units and is nearly double the true output of standard department-store purifiers.
That motor, the extra-large HEPA filter, and the prefilter fabric surrounding the HEPA filter to capture larger particles and hairs (which should be replaced annually for about $45 per year, currently), are all housed in a steel case with a high quality powder coating that's baked on to form a durable surface that's resistant to scratches, scuffs, and stains, which is available in five colours: the Black or White basic options, or their three new premium colours: Cream, Champagne Mist, or Soft Silver.
Mind you, if there are generally also a fair bit of odours or airborne chemicals or gases continually being introduced to or building up in your location, an optional HI-C carbon weave filter is recommended to deal with those. Sometimes called "paratrooper carbon," this material is a cut above typical consumer fare: it has been used to protect soldiers from poisonous gases and chemical warfare. If you select this option, it comes installed, surrounding the HEPA filter, overtop a metal frame, which you continue to reuse when replacing the fabric about once every two years (for about $45 per year, currently).
Airpura's machines are of course round, which they use to your advantage, to provide full 360 degree air distribution around the upper part of the machine, enabling these units to purify areas up to 2,381 square feet with two full air exchanges an hour (based on 8-foot ceilings), or for rooms up to 952 square feet to achieve five full air exchanges per hour (the metric some brands use).
