This Menstrual Tonic or Uterine Tonic by St. Francis Herb Farm is specifically formulated with seven herbs to relieve painful periods (dysmenorrhea), premenstrual tension, and other symptoms of PMS. Its lead ingredient, Dong Quai, is a classic Chinese plant remedy that's been praised for its estrogenic healing role.

Product Notes:

This Combo can not only be used to help relieve premenstrual symptoms and the pain associated with menstruation, but also as a uterine tonic, and even to help relieve rheumatic muscle and joint pain and neuralgic pain from conditions like sciatica.

Dong Quai, which is sometimes nicknamed "female ginseng," has been an important part of Chinese herbal medicine for centuries (and translates as "return to order"). It's long been used to provide nutritional support for the discomfort of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause, as well as to "tonify" the blood, but natural health product manufacturers now recommend it be used prior to that time of life, as well.

Dong Quai has several active constituents targeted on the blood system, and has lots of Vitamin B12. There are suggestions that it may have the ability to help optimize estrogen levels, replenish red blood cells and increase blood volume, encourage regular cycles (especially in those coming off the pill), and reduce mood swings, among other things, and it's also been found to be helpful with modulating blood pressure, headaches, and other blood-related conditions.
